:thinkI was confused by the pattern as well, as there seemed to be not enough chains for what was asked. I have made the first row and this is my interpretation of the row

 

 

Ch 8

 

HDC in first 4 chain, 2 HDC in next 2 ch, in last chain (2HDC,1ch,2HDC) twice. In back loopsHDC in next 2 chain, 2HDC in next Ch, HDC in remaining 4 chains, 2 ch, turn

 

So it appears that the triangle is made by working around the original 8 chains. Hope this helps.

No I have not made the top, Unfortunately I don't exactly have the body for it, I may make it one day for my step-daughter as she is skinny as a rake
