Need help creating pattern from original

My mil let me borrow this vintage potholder so that I could recreate the pattern. I have never done this before. Is there a more experienced crocheter out there that could help me? Here is the front:

 

and the back:

 

It is 2 sided- I can stick my fingers up the legs and down the neck- if there were an opening it could be doll clothing.

well here is what it looks like to me

 

 

2 rectangles folded in half for the legs and then joined to make them look like pants..

 

two rectangles at the top for the shirt with a little shaping for the opening.. and arm holes left open .. maybe theyare closed.. then edged a little.. and the suspenders added last

It looks like straight double crochet stitches, too.
