Problems getting started...

silvermoon42

Question

I am trying to start the Beth's little star ( http://www.angelfire.com/va3/heartfeltangels/littlestarafghan.html )

But am having problems with the starting row, I can't make it 5 spaces and I just can't quite find where I am dc at to get everything started. I've tried like 4 different times and it's just aggrivating me! lol I really want to make this, I've seen so many posted around the site and this afghan is just beautiful!

Also, I was thinking of maybe making it with baby sport yarn, should I re-think this and stick with worsted or should the baby weight be alright?

If anyone could help me out starting, maybe break it down a little so that it's easy to get my spacings that'd be awesome. I guess I can't really pinpoint what exactly it is that I'm having a problem with, maybe the round 1 instructions aren't clear enough for me?

Hope someone can help me out :)

:think Picture the 7 CH as 1DC, 3CH and the 1 spare stitch which you are going to work into.

CH7, Now work 1DC, Into last Ch of the 7, *CH3, 1DC into the same place as the last DC* keep doing this until you have 5, CH3 spaces including the first one made. Join with a ss, to the 3rd of the 7CH from the beginning. (Looks like a wagon wheel when you are done.)

Now carry on and follow the pattern.

Possibly all other patterns in the round that you have done, have started with a chain which is joined into a circle.

Hope this is helpful.

It does work because I have made the little star and it is on the back of my mothers chair at the resthome. I did it in Rainbow colours and it looks fabulous.

Have fun.

I wanted to do that at one time, but I am ashamed to say I gave up on it and did a round ripple instead, which I have a wonderful pattern for if you need it. But even though I never completed it I may still be able to help, http://www.crochetville.org/forum/search.php?searchid=187726Here are some previously started post's about the little star, sometimes it helps to read through them.

And here is an alternate way with a picture tutorial to start it that anouther member came up with that didnt like the hole in the center http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6647&highlight=Beth%27s+Star+Afghan

Well I think I figured it out, but it looks kind of funny, my starting chain space is a little bigger then the rest of my spaces. But maybe as my work progresses you won't really be able to notice. In all honesty it isn't really that noticeable, I think I'm just my own worst critic :)

Thanks for the help tho everyone :) Hopefully it'll turn out, I'll let you all know:hook
