Hdc 2, hdc 2 in next stitch

Hi, I’m a beginner with crocheting and my pattern is telling me to do hdc 2, hdc 2 in next stitch. I’m working in the round and I’m supposed to go from 18 stitches to 24.  I’m not sure what it means?

If a pattern says a stitch name and a number without telling you where to put them, like hdc 2, it means to put 1 HDC in each of the next 2 stitches.

If a pattern says to put 2 of whatever stitch into 1 specific stitch, you do exactly what it says - this is an increase.  So if you do this a total of 6 times, you will have increased from 18 to 24.
