Converting knit patterns to crochet

I'm new....be gentle with me

 

I've been crocheting for a couple of years now and have recently become addicted to making felted bags. I've followed a few simple patterns, used wonderful Lamb's Pride yarns, and had some pretty good results.

 

There is a pattern on Knitty.com I just simply have my heart set on making for my mother for XMas. Does anyone have the secret incantation or trick to convert knitting patterns to crochet?

 

I could possibly try to figure it out on my own, but I'd like to avoid as much of the "error" part of trial-and-error as possible.
