Help! Pattern still doesn’t make sense

Elizabeth262

Question

If you have 48sts from previous round, how does this round work to get 48sts at the end

15 sc, ch 7, [sc] across the chs, sc in next st, 14 sc, [sc, dec] six times (48)

And the next round:

15 sc, sc up the opposite side of the chs, 33 sc (54)

HELP!

Your row says=make 1 stitch into 1 with 2 exceptions: (1) the chain, which is a loop 'in the air' and doesn't use a stitch (2) at the end, where it says [sc, dec] 6 times.  Each iteration of [sc, dec] uses 3 stitches from the row below, but produces only 2 in the current row, which is a reduction of 6.   (if you read 'dec' as 'dc', you are not the only one that has ever done this...ahem)

A less likely possibility is that where it said to chain 7, it meant to also say 'skip 6 stitches'.  You should be able to verify this by looking at the pattern photo to see if there is a 'slit' in that spot.
