Attach different colour yarn in chain space

Nicolapen

Question

Is there an easy way to attach different yarn colour in a chain space when the next step is to chain 2 (CH2 does not count as a stitch).

Because of where I am required to join different colour and openness of pattern I cannot join yarn with the last yarn over of last stitch

Fold about 6" the end of your new color yarn back over the yarn (enough to securely weave in later), stick your hook under the chain, grab the yarn at the fold and pull thru/under the chain space (hold onto the new yarn ends, it's kinda floppy), yarn over, and pull thru the 2 loops of the new color (the end plus a length from the ball about an inch, and grab the cut end and pull it thru the loop (this gets it out of the way and secures it a bit).  Snug up the loop on the hook.  You will have a chain looking 'stitch' around the chain, and a loop on your hook (and the tail off to the side); you can decide whether or not to count the chain-looking-thing as a chain or not.
