Irish crochet books

Recommended Posts

We went to the Tucson Celtic Festival yesterday and one booth had lots of books of all different types - including lots of craft and costume ones. So I got to pick up two books on Irish Crochet lace:

Masterpieces of Irish Crochet Lace

and

Clones Lace: The story and patterns of an Irish Crochet (this one has some really neat history stuff and cool pictures!)

Not sure when I'll get to any of the patterns, but I've been looking for something like this. :)

Do be careful! Irish crochet addiction is a serious complication of PAS. I've already amassed a large collection from eBay and Lacis.

Then there is the Irish Lace forum, where members challenge one other to pursue ever more complicated motifs (and to scrounge for more patterns).

Some participants are working their way through the projects in your Clones Lace book. I've decided to start slow with the motifs in Ethne D'Arcy's book, with size 30 thread, size 20 padding cord.

Of course, to really get into the art, you need to search for fine thread and really teeny, tiny hooks ... size 22 anyone?

Wishing you joy in your purchases,
