Am I doing this stitch right?

I'm getting frustrated. Pattern reads [(tr, ch 1) twice, 2 tr)] in next ch.

Does this mean I'm putting 4 stitches in the next chain? tr, ch 1, tr ch1, tr, tr?

Yes it does! You got it right.

Sounds correct to me. It will probably make more sense to you after you get to the next row and have to use the ch 1 spaces for the rest of the pattern.

I learned to read the whole pattern before starting, that way you can sort of visualize the pattern as you go.
