Stunning stripes pattern in Homespun comfort afghans book book

Kittykat2

Question

I am absolutely stumped on row 21

it reads:

ch 6 (counts as first dc plus ch3, now and throughout) turn; sc around ch-5 spaces of previous 3 rows, ch 3,*dc in next 3dc, ch3, sc around ch-5 sps of previous 3 rows, ch 3; repeat from * across to last dc, dc in last dc.

Im stumped at the part where they say  sc around ch-5 sps of previous 3 rows

can anyone help?

I wish the book ad had pics of the all the afghans, I'm guessing the pic on the cover isn't the one you're making. http://www.lionbrand.com/homespun-comfort-afghans.html

My guess would be that it's telling you to sc over the chain space, in other words holding the yarn behind the work as you normally would, put the hook under the center area of the chain loop, yarn over, pull up over & in front of the chain, yarn over, pull thru the 2 loops on the hook - so the sc encircles the chain loop, and isn't made into a specific chain.  This is the most common way to work "into" a chain loop.
