What is roving?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so maybe I dont know exactly what I am talking about...was that even the correct term? I've heard people talk about roving every now and then, and the other day while browsing the yarn section of a local craft shop, I found roving. I think thats what it was called. It was like flat yarn almost, but 3, 4, or 5 (I can't remember exactly) strands in one not intertwined. Like wool that had not been spun yet or something. It was wound up in a skein, and not yet dyed. Am I making any sense? My question is, what do you do with it? Maybe I should go back to the store to see if I am using the right term, but I am pretty sure it was labeled roving. I am thinking you could spin it, but I am clueless. I just had to ask, been wondering about this for some time now. :think
