Help with ** in a pattern

I am making a lacy dress and on Row 10 it reads in part   *5 sc in next ch-5 sp, 3 sc in next ch3 sp, skip next stitch, sc in next ch1 sp**, 3 sc in next ch 3 sp, rep from *  around ending last rep at **

 

Can anyone help me with this.  I don't understand the **..

Ignore the ** until you get to the end of the row.  at that point you probably will have to stop at the ** as you won't have enough stitches to do any more.
