Sizing for Butterfly Wing shawl

Hi there:

 

I'm crocheting away on my butterfly wing shawl and have crocheted about 25 rows using a J hook. It looks great but I'm finding the shawl really long and not very wide. Is this common? I keep crocheting in the hope that it will eventually be wide enough but I think the tail will start dragging on the ground soon. Any pointers? Is this shawl designed to be longer in the back?

A picture's worth a thousand words and my shawl looks about the same size as yours. I usually knit my shawls - this is my second crocheted shawl and wondered about the sizing. The person I'm making it for is shorter (and a little wider) than me and it seemed to be working up in the wrong directions, if you know what I mean...
