Pattern Help

Hi all, I have been crocheting on and off for about 8 years now and now trying to use more stitches and patterns to add a litter variety to my crocheting projects.  I am currently working on a hat for my nephew and an confused as to how I am supposed to follow the following patternn:

when I get to the third round I am lost! I am not getting a total of 40 stitches so I must be missing something.  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!!

What count are you getting?

 

Foundation: 10 sts

R1: 10 sts (no increases)

R2: 10 sts + 10 increase = 20 sts

R3: 20 sts + 20 increase  = 40 sts

 

Foundation: dc dc dc dc dc dc dc dc dc dc

 

Writing it out is what helps me.  I hope it helps you, too!

Please do tell us how many sts you get on round 3.  Also, was your count correct at the end of round 2?
