Need help with crochet conversion

Marsh707

Question

Hi All - I found a Tunisian crocheted afghan that I would like to convert to the size for a small child (baby afghan may be TOO small). Should I decrease the number of starting chain (currently 170)? Or would using a smaller needle and lighter weight yarn be sufficient? Pattern calls for worsted weight - I'm using 3-Light. Please help ???? Thanks!!!

Don't forget about gauge if going down on yarn and hook size. After chaining the required number as directed, measure the chain to be sure it is the same as the pattern's width or as close as possible.
