Help - my flowers are wilting

Hi there, I'm trying to make this lariat flower scarf, but the petals of the flowers keep curling. What am I doing wrong, and how can i fix this?

The smallest hook that you can stand perhaps, so the flowers are more stiff?

 

Double-sided flowers?

 

What would be ideal is making them out of wool and felting them (but not the strings).

Since her flowers are so uniformly flat, she probably blocked them.

Thanks so much! I tried the smaller needle, but it still kept curling. I never knew about blocking, so I had to look it up. That's probably it. I will look up more info about it and will try it to see if it works.
