Need help with a special stitch

Quinten Rose

Question

I am working on a beanie for my wife and the pattern has a special note for "cable" which reads:

Skip next 2 sts, work FPdc around nest st, working in fron of FPdc just made, work FPdc around second skipped st, working in front of last FPdc made, work FPdc around first skipped st.

I know how to complete the FPdc I'm just getting lost with the "working in front of" part. If you could please help me that would be great thanks.

So, you skipped a stitch, now you need to work backwards into that skipped stitch (in other words, the stitches will be made out of order).  You could either reach with the hook in front of the stitch you just made to work into the prior stitch, or you could reach behind the stitch you just made to do so.  Reaching in front or in back of the stitch makes a different in how the cable will look.
