help with sock pattern

so i've been trying to crochet socks but i have trouble understanding a part of a pattern.

I finished the toes part and now i moved on to the foot part. it says to sc crochet around evenly until sock measures 2.5 inches LESS than desired foot length (back of heel to tip of toe).

So i don't understand until where it should go, to the beginning of the heel? or all the way back?

I should really use some help!

Let's say your foot is 7 inches long. So 7 minus 2.5 is 4.5. So do the sc until it measures 4.5.

The reason it says '2.5 inches shorter than desired (read: total) foot length' is that the process of making the heel will add 2.5" to the length of the sock.
