What Does This Mean?

Question

I have been crocheting for a few years now, but haven't tried any patterns that were too difficult. I usually crochet amigurumi and just recently, graphgans. Since it's getting cold, I've decided to start crocheting hats and found a cute pattern that I'm excited for. I started and then was stumped.

"ch 2 and fpdc around same st, fpdc around next dc, dc in each of the 2 sts just worked in behind the fpdc sts..."

So I figured out the front-post double crochet easily enough. I pick up on new stitches rather quickly, but its the double crochet in each of the 2 sts just worked in behind the fpdc sts that confuse me. Do I turn my work? Where are these stitches?

Any suggestions would be wonderful!

When you make a fpdc, you work around the post of the stitch below, and leave the top of the stitch 'empty' (the spot that you would have used if you weren't doing a post stitch).

You will have to reach behind the fpdcs and work into those stitch tops that you didn't use.  You don't turn.

PS welcome to the 'ville!
