Blocking Question

MsSaya

Question

When you are making an afghan with squares do you block the squares individually or the whole afghan?? I have always blocked the squares before assembly but a friend says it isnt necessary to do that. What are others opinions?? Thanks in advance

If it is acrylic, or a motif square (of any fiber) that is worked from the center out (so all the stitch tops are on the outside of the square), I wouldn't bother.  I think blocking is more helpful with animal fibers that you are sewing together on the sides of the stitches (like, sweater front front to back, sleeve underarms, or blanket strips).

I agree with granny, I was always told that acrylic didn't need blocking, and since that is about all i can work with, then I haven't blocked either squares, or afghans. I was told too, but others than know more than I, ha ha, that once you block something, you will always have to block it after washing, soooo, hope that helps!
