What colors to use?

Hello. I've made a bag for my cousin and I want to add birds and flowers. I've done the bag in her college colors…what colors should I use for the appliqués. I plan on putting an owl in the lower right and working to the upper left towards the handle. I appreciate all and any help! I would use some white, or some lighter color to contrast with the brights. Red would also contrast we'll.

I would stick to the pastels.  With the green and yellow so bright, I would go with pink, blue, yellow and even mint green with some white splattered around.
