Question

Hi!

I am currently working on this pattern: DINNER AT EIGHT TOP. I would like to see how many people here have made this pattern before. The reason for this question is that I am currently working on the back piece & I have a really bad gut feeli g that this top is going to be on the little big side for me. What should I do?

Is this the pattern?

Gauge is 17 sc + 20 rows = 4 in. (10 cm); 4 shells = 4 in. (10 cm).

Does your work match that gauge?

How many rows have you done on the back?  It's really easy to tell if it will be too big because the pattern has a diagram, it should should be 18", 20", or 22" depending on the size you are making.

You may need to switch and swatch - switch to a smaller hook, and swatch with smaller hooks until you hit the gauge of the pattern.

Everyone's tension is different, including designers.  I once tried to help my SIL with some afghan squares when she was visiting, and I had the opposite problem - her gauge was so much looser than mine I had to go up 5 hook sizes to match her gauge.
