Crocheting Poncho

AliBeasley

Question

I am following the pattern instructions from this website http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/us/pattern.php?id=4411〈=us however, I am doing double crochets instead of the dtr's. Those looked a little messy to me. I have noticed that my poncho is getting longer and longer, but not really wide. The length where the V is is passed my belt loop now but the arm length is almost to my elbow.

Do I continue to do as the pattern says, increasing in the front and back V's or is there a way for it to not get any longer so I can just make the arm side longer?

It's also the nature of this shape of a poncho-I don't think it matters what stitch you are using.  Look at the picture, the modeled one is well past her waist in front, but just past her elbows on the side.

It's not round, it won't reach your belt evenly all around with the points worn front and back.  I made a similar one that I reaches my wrists at the side, and it's almost to my knees front and back.
