laceweight yarn instead of worsted?

ratdog

Question

I want to try adapting a lattice stitch infinity scarf from a worsted to a lace weight yarn.

The pattern looks like it would be pretty in a light weight yarn. I need to use alpaca so it is not cheap yarn that i csn experiment with first.

The recipient lives in Florida so the scarf is for accent not for warmth.

Does anyone know if this type of substitution works?

Thanks

The pattern is from classycrochet (.) wordpress com

it is a free pattern

yes it will work, it will be much much more open and lacy.  it may be too open and lacy and the stitches may look floppy.  if so you will want to go down several hook sizes and make a smaller scarf or add repeats to make it the same width as the worsted version.  you will need to swatch it and block the swatch and see what you think.

Are you positive that the recipient can wear alpaca?  Alpaca bothers my neck unless it is very cold.  I would not be able to wear alpaca at all in FL.
