Double Treble stitch - top loop misery

Hi,

 

Why do I get a long top chain stitch when I do a double treble stitch? I try to keep it tight, but whatever I do the 'joining' chain is huge.

 

I have studied You Tube, but I cannot see where I'm going wrong

 

Any suggestions how to solve this problem?

I hate that.  I usually pull on the yarn with my tension hand as I work the loops.  That and wind the loops around the hook real close together and keep it tight.

I try to keep the YO's as close as possible to the end of the hook while working them off and it seems to help some.
