What ?!? Help please?

I just found a wonderful looking pattern called "Happy Times Afghan" over at Ravelry.  I have read this pattern at least a dozen times and I am confused:  There is no mention of a starting chain anywhere on this pattern?

 

This pattern is rated "Easy"!  What am I missing???

It looks like you start off with the pattern... chain 5, then slip st in the 4th chain from the hook... repeating 114 times. This will give you a foundation row of picots and chain to work your hdc into for row 2.

No, there's no traditional starting chain.  You're going to make all these little loops until you have enough of them.  Then you'll work Row 2.
