My favorite is Complete Photo Guide to Crochet by M Hubert, it is on the page that TampaDoll linked.

Crochet Answer Book by E Eckman is a good pocket size reference book.

As far as online resources, there are good things on youtube, but there is a lot of junk too. So i wouldnt just go to youtube and randomly look for crochet videos. Crochet Geek has a lot of videos http://crochet-mania.blogspot.com/p/index-of-patterns.html

Also Crochetcabana Has photos and some videos http://www.crochetcabana.com/tutorials/index.htm

And Nexstitch http://www.nexstitch.com/v_crochet_videos.html excellent short videos and articles

Also, check out your library! I scoured the internet for stuff and then it hit me to check there! That way you don't spend money on a book and then it stinks!
