Baby Fingering Weight Yarn

Why is it getting harder and harder to find a baby fingering weight (super fine 1) yarn? I know that I can use 2 strands of size 10 cotton crochet thread, but I prefer the beauty and handling of yarn (preferably the ombres). I can't find fingering weight in any stores and usually have to order it directly from a supplier. Of course, there are shipping fees involved. Does anyone know of any tricks or other yarns comparable to a fingering weight baby yarn?

Lustersheen? But that's crazy expensive up here.

Don't know any tricks, but I can tell you why you cannot find it in your local stores. I went into one of our outrageously expensive LYSs and they had lots of sock yarn at a very low price, which really surprised me. When I asked about it, the lady told me that everybody (trendy people) wants to knit or crochet something FAST. No one has the patience to tackle projects with fine yarn anymore. It's called "instant gratification", and that's what this generation is all about.

I found alot of fingering weight yarn at knitting-warehouse.com . Seems like 3 different brands carry it there and there is shipping but it's only 5.99 per order
