I'm suffering from an overload of colons! I have a pattern that says

 

ch 2, 3 sc in second sc from hook: 3 sc.

 

They're in almost every line. What does the colon mean?

Maybe the count after the : gives you the total number of stitches in that row.

I've usually seen the stitch count put in parentheses or something like that, but that's how I'd interpret this, too, even though I've never seen it written out that way...
