crochet cotton...

Good afternoon! I'm wondering about crochet cotton and sizes or weights or whatever...........

I've made a black choker with black crochet cotton, size 10. But i've got some patterns for crocheting bags, and other things but I'm not sure of the size. I think i've seen size 3, or size 5 something like that. What is the difference in sizes? Is there something else that I can substitute? I don't know! :-) :think

When I go to Wal-Mart, or Zellers, I forgot to bring or write down the size of thread that I need.

So, I guess I'm just looking for clairification on crochet thread sizes.......I'll stop babbling now.......really..........

Size 3 is kind of a sportsweight thread, five is a bit thinner than 3, thicker than 10. With thread, the lower the number, the thicker the thread.

Crochet cotton for dishcloths is usually worsted weight cotton, Peaches and Cream or Sugar N cream.

I know Michaels and AC Moore sell #3 thread, because I have bought it there.
