Rug Yarn??

CountryCrochet

Question

Ok, I guess I am totally out of it. What is rug yarn and where would I find it? The only places I have around here are Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby and there is a Michaels close enough to drive to. I also need to know what pellon is. I'm trying to make a pair of 'scuffs' which I had never heard of, but are really cute and both of these things are for this same pattern, so I'm lost!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Honestly the only place I have seen rug yarn is the second hand places... most of the new stuff that I have seen in stores are the more frilly new stuff. Anyways Pellon is a brand name of what I think is a type of interfacing used to stiffen fabrics.

I think I've seen rug yarn in some craft stores, but not with the yarn, maybe more with the cross stitch and needlepoint stuff?

I have part of a skein of Aunt Lydia's rug yarn, but it's really old (someone gave it to me) so I don't know if that brand still makes it. (Edited to remove the link I found since it turned out to be the kind that's pre-cut in little pieces. Oops!)

My Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's still carry Aunt Lydia's rug yarn. At JoAnn's it is still in the area by the yarn but you kind of have to look for it. At Hobby Lobby, it's in the next isle over with some other craft stuff. I haven't looked at my Walmart. I did see that AC Moore has it, but ours isn't close enough for me to check.

It comes in pretty small skeins and it's fairly scratchy to me.

I found this:

Pellon is a brand of interfacing & you can find it in stores that have a fabric department. I used to find Aunt Lydia's (in the skein) acrylic rug yarn in the latch hook & plastic canvas aisle at craft stores. On line you can find it at:

I prefer using wool rug yarn:

Good Luck:)

Thanks for your help. I had no idea what it was and after seeing the pictures of it, I don't think it would work anyway. The pattern was for scuffs, which are like house shoes, and I was going to make them for my grandmother, but that yarn seems too rough so I'm coming up with new ideas. Thanks for the help though, I greatly appreciat it!!!
