Beanie hats, size?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I was asked to make some beanie hats for a 1 year old. (or less, don't remember the exact age) It looks like the pattern is basically double crochet increase until a certian point and then 1 dc in each st. is that right? What kind of yarn is normally used? Are they stretchy? I guess main question is how do I size them?

Did all that make any sense at all?:think

I usually use a soft yarn intended for babies. I really love microspun for baby beanies. I make all different sizes of baby beanies and I usually make them to fit a canteloupe sized head. That's (from the top of the head):

row 1- 2 dc in each stitch

row 2- 1 dc, then 2 dc (repeat around)

row 3- 1 dc, 1 dc then 2 dc (repeat around)

Row 4- 1 dc, 1 dc, 1 dc then 2 dc (repeat around)

Rows 5-end- 1 dc around

I hope that makes sense. :D

Hi Amber, I use the same pattern Frangipani talked about, and I start off with chain 3, join together with sl st, chain 3, 10 dc in the ring and then join with sl st...then on with the rest of the pattern. Hope this helps! :hook

The hats I make will fit my 2 year old niece up to my 5 year old nephew. And if you add another row on of 1, 1, 2 dc before you start doing 1 dc in each stitch around, it will fit an adult. :wgrin
