Best Technique?

Recommended Posts

I would like to do a solid piece multi color afghan square like a quilt square - but don't want to do granny's if I can help it. I hate sewing :lol What is the best technique for working from a graph? Single crochet? Slip stitch? Tunisian? Any suggestions welcome :)

I have seen some beautiful graphs done with Tunisian, but I have had lots of luck with just plain old sc. It's a nice, small stitch so the picture turns out nice and sharp. I crocheted an argyle sweater years ago in dc, and it turned out beautifully, but the pattern itself called for dc, so I guess they knew what they were talking about. In my own opinion, I think a shorter, tighter stitch like sc works better for graphs.

I know somebody here makes some beautiful sc graph afghans - with pictures of wolves, etc - and she said she works one direction across. She sometimes leaves a fringe on the long side of the afghan because she's always working right to left, and leave a tail on each end. I asked her about it once, and she said that it works better with the graph that way. I just can't remember her name, but I'll go see if I can find the thread I'm thinking of....

ETA: I found the thread! It's the last one in this list, but the others are amazing, too. I thought you'd like to see the afghans and read a bit about her technique.
