Can you dye yarn on finished garment?

To dye acrylic yarn you would need to check a commercial dye like RIT, and see if your fiber is listed. Then do a test on a swatch to be sure. As for dying an entire garment the same color, I don't see why not. I just haven't done it yet, but I plan to make a shawl and dye it afterwards, graduating the colors.

Dyeing acrylic yarn is next to impossible and requires industrial chemicals.

I've dyed FOs, both cotton and wool. Research techniques on line-Dharma Trading Company is a good place to start for general dyeing instructions.

Thanks for the info. I would really love to make some bright and strong colored garments, but it's really taxing on the eyes to work with some colors. It would be great to crochet in white and then dye afterwards. Am I right in assuming the garment size would not be affected by the dying process?
