My favorite is the Harmony Guides. I have this version http://www.amazon.com/300-Crochet-Stitches-Harmony-Guides/dp/1855856387/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274810608&sr=8-2 and http://www.amazon.com/220-More-Crochet-Stitches-Harmony/dp/1855856395/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274810608&sr=8-8

They've been redone recently and the new versions i think have all the stitches from the earlier versions, plus some additions. http://www.amazon.com/Harmony-Guides-Basic-Crochet-Stitches/dp/1596680814/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274810608&sr=8-1 Scroll down a bit to see all 3.

A brand new book that is very good is Complete Photo Guide to Crochet http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Photo-Guide-Crochet-Comprehensive/dp/1589234723/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274810914&sr=1-1 It has nice sections on techniques like Tunisian, hairpin, etc. and Bruges, freeform, and includes several nice patterns.
