How do you enter a crocheted item in a county fair?

I have never entered an item in a county fair. Do you have to contact the fair workers in advance? How do you guys do it in your fairs?

In my county the entry form and fees have to be submitted about a month before the fair. Ours can be done on line now or by mail. You can check to see if your county fair has a website and then look for the competors book/ guidelines/ entries. It may be under the home economics section. Then the day before the fair I have to bring my items there and tag them with the numbered tags they provide. The building is normally closed the first few hours of the fair for judging and then they open it up. Our fair is in 2 weeks. This is my third year entering, and I have won ribbons each year! It's is very fun and a wonderful way to show off your hobby and to see all the hard work everyone else has done. Even if you cannot enter this year, you should go and see what is being entered and what is winning.You can also talk to the fair judges and get more information for next year.
