slip stitch and single crochet

Ok I am not sure if I am just forgetting my crochet stitches or what but I need help. I was making a pattern for mittens and it said to sc a bunch and then slip stich a couple. Aren't these the same thing? Anyways my mitten is deformed.

no they arent the same thing...

 

when you slip stitch you are pushing thru and pulling back thru with out a yo pulling thru everything smoothly

 

with a sc you push thru pull back thru yo and pull thru both loops

 

did that make sense?

Slip stitch: insert hook in stitch, pull up a loop, and pull that loop through the loop already on your hook.

 

Single crochet: insert hook in stitch, draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through both loops on hook.

Hmm....is there a difference between countries as a british book of mine calls single crochet slip stich. Yep, just double checked and it definitely says they are the same. Bizarre. What it calls double crochet is what I call single crochet and you too from your descriptions. Thanks for verifying it for me though.

Yes, there is definately a difference between UK stitches and USA stitches. This may help )

THANK YOU! I thought I was losing my mind. I have to keep that reference as my husband is british and so I order from Amazon in the UK (as I don't speak german even though I live in Germany).
