granny square question

I was just wondering what is the difference between a "yo-yo" and a "granny's daughter"? Also is a granny square a certain amount of rounds, like 4, or is that just the type of stitch? Thanks so much!

:cheerA Yo Yo is a circle and a Granny's Daughter is the first row of a Granny Square.

 

This is 2 rows of a Granny Square and the centre would be the Granny's Daughter.

This pic was done as a sample to show someone how to do the square by turning at the end of the row to keep the join in the corner. I normally work a granny without turning.

 

This would be the Yo Yo.
