Question regarding tiny needles

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie with a question. I recently was given what looks like some very old needles (I've been crocheting for about 55 years) I have no idea if they are crochet hooks or not. I even got out my magnifier to see if they had any writing and I don't see any. They have very tiny heads and are inside a small wooden case that looks like a piece of 1/2-3/4" dowel and is about 6 inches long. It pulls apart in the middle to reveal the needles. It's a real mystery to me. I would appreciate any help in determining what these are.

Do they look like regular crochet hooks on a smaller scale? Perhaps they are thread hooks.

I have some as well and they are so fine I can only feel the hook.

 

Can you imagine, in the old days with poor lighting, working with thread so fine it needed a hook that small.

 

The old time crocheters were heros in my book.
