kntting in the round question

I've been making the ballet camisole out of MagKnits, and the body is knit in the round, then you make the armholes and knit back and forth for the two sides of the top as separate sides (joined at the shoulder). I noticed while knitting in the round that my rows/stiches were slanted (increases and decreases also were used to shape the body) to one direction, but figured that had to do with the knitting being on circular needles (and all scrunched up). But last night I began the top of the back, and yes, my stitches are slightly larger (not surprising, since you are now purling entire rows), but the rows and stitches themselves are perfectly vertical and not slanted at all. To my eyes, it's noticeable. Has anyone else ever made something this way and experienced the same thing? I'm even thinking about ripping the whole thing out and reknitting it as two pieces that I join. TIA, Patty
