Kelly,

Have you tried the spin and park method?

 

Predraft a length of roving,

 

Attach your leader (NOT the roving) and hold it tightly a few inches above the spindle and give it a clockwise spin. when it slow down, spin it again (and again) What you are doing is building up the twist in the leader. 'Park' the spindle between your knees or at your feet.

 

lay your drafted roving over the leader. Now firmly (but not a death grip) hold on the the roving with one hand and lightly piinching the leader/fiber, bring your pinched fingers toward the roving. The twist should come up the roving, keep bringing the twist into the roving.

 

Put your spun yarn onto the bobbin and repeat!
