Beginner's doily

Does anyone have a suggestion for making my first doily. I have already decided to use size 3 or 5 thread since I have trouble working with the size 10.

You might want to try making a pattern for a coaster or mini doily since the larger thread will make the finished project larger than if using size 10 thread. Unless of course you'd want a larger doily in the end !

 

I know there are plenty of free online coaster patterns--a google search comes up with many sites.
