Help me find a pattern?

I'm hoping that some of you experienced knitters can help me find a sock pattern, since in my search, I can't find it.

My mother used to makes socks for the winter for me and my brothers. She made them for my dad as well, but he wore his every day to work.

Almost every sock pattern I've looked at calls for sock yarn. These ones my mother made were done with worsted weight yarn. The few that I did find that took worsted weight just didn't look right for the heel part, or the toe. Every pair she did had a different color yarn for the heels and toes. And they were more of a crew length. I'm not sure what size needles she used, but I do remember her using her #8 dpn quite often.

I do remember her saying it was an old pattern (thinking somewhere around the 40's to the 60's era) and that she had it memorized. Of the actual pattern that I can remember is casting on 60 sts, divided among 3 needles. Then there was a knit 2 purl 2 ribbing for about 20 rows. This is one of those times I wish I could ask her about how much of it she could tell me so I could write it down.

Please, can anyone steer me in the right direction? :think
