HI;

I just got Lily Chin's book : Couture Crochet , and I just LOVE the pattern on page 79 : Coming Full Circle Vest,

I can't wait to start working on it, but I need some help in choosing a good yarn, I want a special good looking yarn, I dont want to use a simple one and I dont care if it will coast me much more money, I just want the project to be very special ,

I saw some yarns on yarnmarket.co but I dont know how many yards will I need, the yarn that is used for the original pattern is:Lily Chin signature cillection Chelsea 191 yd 175 m 50 g, and for size large I will need 10 skeins

and the crochet hook size should be F5 3.75mm

The yarns that I liked are in bulky wieght do you think I can use them for this pattern? and how many yards will I need?

I appreciat any help or advice,

Thanx

It would be best to keep the gauge of the yarn the same as the pattern calls for. This is a #3 light worsted, so no, bulky yarn would not be easily substitutable. Here is the link to the yarn, here they call it sock weight

Yarn standards fyi http://www.yarnstandards.com/weight.html

You would have to alter the pattern to get it to fit properly with bulky yarn, and the drape would be different. You wouldn't be able to use an F hook with a bulky yarn, or if you could manage it, you'd end up with a rigid rug, not a nice garment.

When substituting yarn, you should always buy the same or more yardage/meters, don't go by ounces/grams. But, that is assuming subbing the same weight of yarn.

Here is a site where you can plug in the weight of yarn you want to cross reference, and it will give you brands to pick from. It lists some Lily Chin yarn but not Chelsea, so pick DK and/or Light Worsted:

Good luck, that is an elegant looking pattern.
