pattern help 2 strands held together

Okay I am reading a pattern. In the pattern it states with 2 strands held together cast on 134 so I am assuming this means that I count the stitches as on stitch even though I am holding 2 strands together. So when I knit the afghan I should knit 2 strands together and count it as 1 stitch.

That sounds like it will be a nice warm afghan when it is done. It should also knit up faster too!
