Pencil or knife?

I hold mine like a pencil and let the thread or yarn just hang and adjust for tension

I hold mine pencil-style on most crochet hooks. However, using the M-size Crochenit hook, I go more knife-like since it's longer. I use my index finger to control the tension. I've tried wrapping the yarn around my pinky, but I can keep the tension uniform then.
