Hourglass Hand Spinners

Hi,

 

I came across a page about "hourglass hand spinners" on the Fancy Kitty website: http://www.fancy-kitty.com/handspinners.html

 

Does anyone have experience with these and understand how they work? I've used regular drop spindles and spinning wheels but have never tried anything like these. My dh would like to learn some spinning and I wonder if this device would be an easy intro to the craft.

This looks very similar to the Rakestraw spinner. You may be able to find more information if you search for rakestraw spinner. It's been around for some time.
