How do you sew on parts?

I am definitely a newbie. What do I sew parts on an amigurumi--is it with thread or yarn? Please help.

I use two different methods, for "jointed" limbs I "sew them like a button" all the way through the torso of the doll, and the opposite limb. I like the way these turn out, and makes the dolls somewhat poseable.

 

The other method is to use a tapestry needle with a bend near the tip. Mine are from Clover and I have about 5 of them that I use a LOT. Using a kind of whip stitch through the top of the limb (shoulder, hip) to the body in a circle shape against where it meets the body.

Thanks so much for the info. I added the tutorial to my favs. The sea turtle is super cute. I think it would be too hard for a newbie like me. Hopefully I make it.
