Stitch Help Please !!!!!!!!!

This is really sad ... I am trying to make an "Easy Crochet Tote". It is a kids pattern for ages 6 and up, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what the pattern is calling for. It says:

 

You have a ring with 8 dc in it.

Then row 2: Ch3, dc in same space; ch 1, *2 dc in space between next 2 sts; ch 1; rep from *

 

What on earth does " in space between next 2 sts", mean? I have frogged this a dozen times and am still not doing something right.

HELP....PLEASE.

it means the you put your crochet stitches into the space between the stitches from the row below (rather than into the top of the stitches).

I tried this also, and it doesn't seem to work either, or I am just not understanding. Not sure which. Also, the next step reads.

 

"ch 3, 2 dc in same space, ch 2, *3 dc in space between next 2 sts; ch 2; 3 dc in same space between next 2 sts; ch 2; rep from * "

 

it is now in clusters of 3, so how do you go between 2 sts, when there are 3. I am so confused.
