How to Join Thread

smg55039

Question

So I'm making this large granny square using multi-strand crochet thread. I've run out of string on the first spool and need to join spool #2. This is where the problems start.

I don't want the string to unravel/untwist, so just letting the ends hang makes me nervous. Unlike yarn, I can't knot the two together and just hide it in the fuzz. Everything I've tried shows. I don't have this sort of trouble with yarn.

How does a person join crochet thread?

Yo with new color, draw through last lp on hook this would be for working in sc

working in dc you would Yo, pull up a loop and draw through 2 loops, then attach new color (leaving a tail for weaving in) and pull through last 2 loops on hook.

These work for joining new colors or new thread. After that you just weave in the ends or you can also just carry the new and old for a few stitches so it is weaved in already then cut off remeining thread.

I agree with post #2, working your last stitch to the last two loops and completing that last two loops with the new color. It's so much better than

tying in a knot because you don't have the bump.
